Dishwasher salt is a coarse-grained salt used to regenerate the ion exchange resin in your dishwasher’s built-in water softener, and is not the same as table salt. In hard water areas, this 2kg bag helps prevent limescale build-up that can reduce cleaning performance and shorten the life of your machine over time.

As water passes through the softener, the salt releases sodium ions that replace the calcium and magnesium minerals responsible for hard water. Left untreated, these minerals build up as limescale on heating elements and spray arms, reducing efficiency and cleaning power. Regular use helps keep the softener working properly and protects the machine over the long term.

How and When to Use It

Add the salt to the dedicated compartment at the base of your dishwasher, using a funnel to avoid spillage, and run a rinse cycle afterwards to dissolve it fully. Unlike detergent, it is not used up every wash, so you only need to top it up when your dishwasher’s salt indicator light comes on or the level is visibly low.
